I live about a mile or so from coordinates 42.39561 -71.13051. If you've been paying attention these numbers were referenced, along with a date and time, in an xkcd comic from a while back.
Turns out the loyal readers of xkcd are organizing a meetup at this location, which is Thomas Williams Park in North Cambridge. And the date is September 23, 2007; this weekend. It ought to be interesting, hopefully I can stop by.
This demonstrates perfectly the world media now occupies. Once we had a handful of choices of people we could listen to. These were usually three or four letter acronyms like NBC, CBS and WRKO. Today an infinite (literally) number of choices present themselves. Attention is scarce so when someone obtains it with such loyalty and volume, they are sitting on a very powerful asset. The work of the future seems to involve keeping it.
